We are a Fiduciary services organization with an upscale office and a dynamic team located in the lower Riviera of Santa Barbara. We are currently looking for a Fiduciary Assistant to join our team. The Fiduciary Assistant will assist three fiduciaries with all of the daily responsibilities of managing clients’ accounts including acting as a trustee/conservator for clients and their estates.  This role will require the individual to use discretionary judgment and act on behalf of the client with regards to healthcare and financial management decisions. This is a client-facing role and will require the individual to have both a legal background and experience with accounting and cash management as well as a professional demeanor and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Legal Case Management:

You will be required to manage legal case files including but not limited to managing and maintaining legal documents and calendaring and tracking event to ensure that appointments are kept and deadlines are met. Prepare filings, pleadings and other relevant documents required for legal purposes. Create correspondence accurately communicating and updating clients, trust officers, internal staff and all other relevant parties as to the status of the case and all material information pertaining to it. 

Financial Management:

You will work with the daily money manager and be expected to use Quickbooks Accounting Software. You must also be proficient in Excel.  You will work with the daily money manager to receive payments on behalf of clients and /or their estates and manage cash flow for individual accounts. You will prepare reports depicting financial status of the accounts to be used internally as well as presented to clients and various stakeholders.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a tech savvy individual who is highly organized and able to handle multiple priorities while adhering to strict deadlines. Someone who has experience as a paralegal or a legal assistant in estate planning and trust administration or other relevant job experience (1-3 Years) or accounting background would be an ideal candidate for this position. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to exercise sound independent judgment and discretion is also imperative.  We are looking for someone who has a professional appearance and demeanor and is able to give presentations to groups of individuals and stakeholders. This person MUST BE BONDABLE.  An Associates Degree is required. A Bachelors Degree is preferred. Environmental Law Course Description:
Acquire a basic knowledge of environmental law. This course provides an overview of federal, state and local environmental law. Topics include:

• Sources of relevant legal authority and how to conduct effective and efficient legal research

• The role of the Constitution, the Executive, administrative agencies, and the courts in environmental law

• Federal, state and local environmental statutes and the agencies that enforce them

• Administrative Agency rule-making, investigations, enforcement and adjudication procedures

• Environmental litigation

• Land use planning and environmental sustainability

• International environmental law

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Compose a search query for online legal research

• Explain the function of administrative agencies

• Identify the federal agencies and the federal laws that include environmental protection requirements

• Identify relevant federal, state and local administrative agencies with  jurisdiction to implement and enforce the environmental laws

• Provide support during environmental litigation

• Apply due diligence in preparing and reviewing transactional documents

• Identify steps to take to limit client liability in environmental transactions
